Individual Learning Program (ILP) – Case Study

Kintek is an Accredited Government Supplier (GITC – Q-3802).

In remote communities throughout far north rural Queensland and Northern Territory, attendance
levels at public primary schools are often as low as 30%, and students routinely move from school to
school without notice.

This obviously makes it very difficult to track the progress of students, and cater for their exact
needs. To rectify this, and help ensure students are getting the right sort of attention to their learning
needs, the Department of Education, Training and the Arts (DETA) proposed a new system called the “Individual Learning
Program”.

The Individual Learning Program is a centralised way of monitoring student’s progress, sharing
information regarding the way each individual student learns best and ensuring these techniques are
utilised properly.

Our Solution
Due to the highly sensitive nature of the information being exchanged, utmost care and consideration
had to be given to security.

The system consisted of well over 20 forms, an engine for generating detailed reports, a tiered
privlidge system where users can assign appropriate tasks to users below them and a highly usable
way to track student’s progress.

Within 2 months Kintek delivered a fully functional, easy to use, secure solution that met the
Departments specifications exactly.

Key features:

  • Complex application, driven by a database containing hundreds of thousands of records.
  • AJAX utilised to make the system look and feel speedy like a real desktop application, not a website.
  • Very simple, easy to use interface
  • Multiple levels of access, with users restricted only to information relevant to them
